Bay Area electronic producer Snuise comes out of the gate strong with his debut full-length, Permanessence. Snuise builds a rock solid back beat by stacking samples dug out from the depths, and tops it off with his own live instrumentation and sound design. There are tinges of trip-hop, but this is decidedly not a nostalgia act. Snuise's production is at times crisp and at times imbued with the hiss and pop of vinyl. Snuise works in the realm of beat-based electronic music, but eschews its tropes for something more vital. As is unfortunately less and less common, Permanessence is more than a collection of songs, but an album. Motifs emerge & dissolve, tempos surge; Snuise is not content to present his work without taking the listener on a journey.
